About Jim

Background

Jim has been a guitarist for many years. He studied classical and flamenco in college, and was the Flamenco accompanist for the UMO dance company. Moving to the Boston area in 1988, he continued private lessons with teachers from the Boston and New England conservatorys. Through those connections he had the opportunity to play for most notable, Benjamin Verdery and Sharon Isbin in Masterclass. Through out this he also had a parallel interest in rock and fusion playing.

Kirtan??

After a several year hiatus, Jim linked up with Kailash, to write and hold Kirtans (Hindu call and response chanting), incorporating many influences into the music. Jim also discovered his passion for percussion during this period, accompaniny on mridaga, djembe, and other percussion instruments.

Onward

Next Jim decided to venture out and start a solo acoustic project playing gigs around Haverhill. Upon a chance meeting, Jim invited Elle Gallo to come sit in, and Acoustic Soul was born. Jim and Elle have played acoustic duo gigs all over Mass and NH. Jim also handled the guitar duties in the Elle Gallo Band for 2 years. Who knows what's next...........

Current

Jim is currently the guitarist for Carrie Rowan and Gracie Curran. Check the schedule for upcoming dates. He has also performed with Air Tight, Lisa Landy, Lori Diamond, Fred Abatelli, Adrienne Fawkes, and The Phil Punch Band. He still does an occasional solo gig around the greater Boston area.

Instruments

Jim plays Taylor acoustics, a 414ce limited and a nylon string, Paul Reed Smith electrics and uses a Hot Rodded Fender Blues Jr. with Basson and Marshall cabinets. There are also many instruments that don't venture out to gigs: An Arron Green Classical Guitar, A 19th century reproduction with gut strings (the sweetest sounding guitar I have) a 1934 Gibson 00, one of those yard sale gems, and several others.

Jim pays the bills as a professional Web Designer/Developer, Managing the Web Department for UMass Boston and freelancing as Rocket Society Productions.
